May 28th: Forum on Large Scale Solar Development

We are excited to have the following panelists confirmed for the forum.

Dennis Hunter, Deputy Director of Department of Public Works

Mostafa Kashe, Chief Electrical Inspector Los Angeles County

Nabil Maalouf, Head of Metro Electrical Plan Check at Los Angeles Department of Building Safety

Tom Meneshian, Principal Consultant at LA Source Consulting

Solar Power in California has been growing rapidly because of high insolation, community support and a Renewable Portfolio Standard that requires that 33% of California’s electricity come from renewable resources by 2020.  The majority of Californians in desert country support large-scale solar development, according to a 2012 survey conducted on behalf of BrightSource Energy.  Survey results show that nearly four out of five (almost 80%) of people strongly supported development of solar power in their communities.  Two-thirds of respondents think renewable energy is important to California’s Future.

The Los Angeles Business Council (LABC) has long been active in the solar roof initiative and is praised for their work, which led to the establishment of Los Angeles “feed-in tariff.”  As the largest solar project in the world is under construction in Antelope Valley covering Kern and Los Angeles Counties, along with numerous other solar projects under construction in that area, the LABC is planning to organize and host a Forum on Solar Permitting, Inspection and Construction as part of their Environmental Sustainability Committee.

The intention of the Forum is to begin a conversation between government, civic leadership and the industry about best practices in Permitting, Inspection and Construction.  Community relations will also provide a background for this discussion.  The gathering will consist of a panel of distinguished leaders in government, solar industry, business and civic leaders lead by a skilled moderator to engage a robust conversation.  Invitees will include LABC members, and other guests involved in this exciting work
